Today, I’m asking you, and all Crusaders, to go ALL IN.
All year, our student-athletes have dedicated themselves to looking towards the future, growing stronger as individuals and teammates athletically, academically and personally.
With fortitude, we are continuing to prepare our 700 Crusaders to compete at the highest level. Just as they are committed to training and learning, to capitalizing on the opportunities in front of them, we are committed to our vision – delivering a transformative student-athlete experience driven by competitive success.
Year after year, regardless of the circumstances, one thing remains constant — the strength of Crusaders when we go ALL IN for one another. Every dollar you give today will be dedicated to continuing our tradition of developing champions. And today, thanks to the Hope + Access campaign, all new and increased gifts are being matched 100% for financial aid.
Together, we are strong. Together, we shape our future. Together, let’s go ALL IN for Crusader student-athletes.
Go Cross Go!

We made it!
Your favorite Crusaders are wrapping up their season this week at the Patriot League Championships in Camden, N.J. after a wild and crazy spring semester. The women are rowing well, embracing new styles and approaches in how we hang on oars, and I couldn’t be more pleased with their effort and energy levels. Our seniors had their closure with Lake Q at practice on Wednesday morning and are eager to represent the purple and white in their last collegiate race as a Holy Cross student-athletes this Friday.
Thank you to our dedicated seniors - Carrie, Grace, Elizabeth, Michaela, Maddy, and MK!
Spring Recap
Seven weeks spent indoors “building the train” on the ergometers paid off well as we transitioned to the water in mid-March. Rowers and coxswains both embraced and made changes towards a biomechanically focused, rhythmic, and fluid style. The muscle memory developed indoors has transferred well over the course of the spring and we look forward to continuing to build off this momentum come Fall 2022.
Although we were disappointed not to have the ability to race our conference rival Colgate in two of those first three intended weekends, which were all canceled, the team appreciated the information gathered from the remaining races on our schedule. The team went up against some speed the last four races to include Brown, BU, BC, and BU Lightweights. Learning how to move well together, trust and lean on one another, race what they’ve practiced, and acknowledging the importance of building a base over the summer that will sustain high rates and effective gearing in the spring were absorbed as part of the “intel” gathered for summer training.
Looking Ahead
This team is smart. Very smart. Rowers and coxswains alike ask great questions, look to set up time for film review, ask for more opportunities for secondary work, proactively stretch and fuel well, and are hungry for more. I know the coaching staff has been happy with the level of drive they carried through the season despite scheduling curveballs, temporary campus pauses and missing out on the “normal” team interactions and bonding opportunities. We are all the more excited at what we can accomplish together as we begin to plan to open back up this fall.
That being said, we have our sights on the future! This Friday, May 14th is our annual Holy Cross Athletics Giving Day (and our Patriot League Championship – check us out on patriotleague.tv 8:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.), we’re CALLING ON YOU to assist in these efforts by going ALL IN in starting us off on the right foot in preparation for the 2021-2022 academic year. Stay tuned for information on how you can get involved on Friday!
Thank you for your support and Go Crusaders!

Good afternoon, HCWR Alumnae-
Happy Monday! Last week, I held an informal Alumnae Social Chat over Zoom with a great group! I am hoping to have the chance to connect with each of you over the course of the next year. Please know you are welcome to reach out anytime via email or phone as well (413-687-2594).
If you were unable to join us, below are a few quick recaps of our discussion. Please also note we'll be calling on YOU, the Holy Cross Women's Rowing Alumnae, for any interest in learning more about our Holy Cross Alumnae Rowing Association (HCARA) in the coming weeks. Some updates first!
Team
We're on the water! After 7 weeks of indoor training, and working through some permits to row across the street at the Worcester Boat Club to use their docks, the women are back at it as of March 20th. Check out our Instagram and Facebook pages for updates. With safety as our #1 priority, we made the unfortunate call last Friday afternoon to cancel our very first race due to flooding conditions. We were scheduled to race against Colgate in Hadley, MA, on the CT River, but luckily we will have this opportunity this coming weekend in Rome, NY in addition to 2 additional crews. All rowing programs across the country and beyond will be shaking off the dust this month as we enter the racing season. Knowing this, it has been important to relay to the team that we are only gathering information in the coming weeks. We want to take off the pressure as we work back into the season. We want to remain competitive, but also stay healthy and comfortable in the boats by working proper mechanics in building the foundation for a successful spring and fall this year. In general, it has been wonderful to see the women back in action gaining confidence in their ability to hang on oars.
Racing
We intend to race this spring! With these ever-changing times, expect our schedule to change slightly over the course of the next few weeks due to venue guidelines, state and local guidelines, and testing protocols among each team. Fingers crossed we make it to May 14th for the Patriot League Championship in NJ! See our website for more information.
COVID Team Updates
Fingers crossed, we are staying safe and healthy! The women practice "being a good teammate" in everything they do, and their good decisions are paying off. The athletes must test twice weekly, complete their daily symptom check, and follow campus guidelines as part of their community standards this spring.
Alumnae
Switching gears - it was important during our call to discuss how I can work with you to organize the group and streamline communication between the College, the team, and you! Based on the information I have gathered from pockets of groups so far this year, it is my understanding that there is a very lively group of alumnae out there, and an alumnae facebook page has been a great way to connect with one another. Many of you have shared the facebook page has been helpful in communication with the team and College, as well as the coach's emails. Many have expressed wanting to learn more about:
- The team & race day information
- Opportunities to gather as an alumnae group
- How to support the team or program as a whole
- Offering career networking & post-grad support
- Sharing your stories with the team
- Hearing campus updates from The Hill
- Being a resource in general!
How can this be accomplished?
Let's get organized! I've learned the HCARA group in the past was predominantly organized by the men's program, but we are looking to join forces and establish a joint group to support goals of both programs (social and supportive goals!). Long term, it would be wonderful to utilize the HCARA group to gather more of the ideas listed above, and learn more about what you would like to see from an informal alumnae group. We would be looking to organize a Zoom call (just the women's side and myself) in about 2-3 weeks time based on the number of those interested. Please reach out and introduce yourself if you have any interest or would like to inquire further.
The goal in becoming more organized in the coming weeks within the existing HCARA group, to include more presence from the women's side, is to enhance communication between you all, and between the alumnae and student-athletes. The HCARA website can also be used as a platform to post messaging about YOU. We could include alumnae spotlights, career networking databases, social media plugs, organize an Alumnae Day, HOCR gatherings and other small groups of local gatherings across the country for alumnae to meet, etc.
Please reach out if you just want to say hello too.
From my family to yours, I hope you are all doing well and enjoying this spring weather. Hope to welcome you all back to Lake Q sooner than later!
Best,
Andrea Landry

We are in awe of and so very grateful for our supporters who continue to go All In for our student-athletes. Your generosity allows us to prepare our Crusaders for a stronger tomorrow as they strive to succeed and lead in athletics, in the classroom and in their communities.
Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your support! Holy Cross would not be what it is today without the participation and dedication of Crusader Nation.

Holy Cross student-athletes are dedicated and resilient. When our world — and in turn, our campus life — changed this year, we adapted. Through challenge after challenge, our commitment to our education and our athletics never faltered. And today, we remain focused and hopeful for the future.
This is why we are asking the Holy Cross community to come together right now in support of our student-athletes.
Whether you make a gift to the Fund for Athletics Excellence or to one of our 27 varsity teams, your generosity helps position us for an even stronger return to competition.
In the face of unprecedented challenges, we know that one thing remains constant — the strength of Crusaders when we go all in to support one another. On this Giving Tuesday, your gift is for our future. With your support, our next great moment awaits.
