Today, I’m asking you, and all Crusaders, to go ALL IN.
All year, our student-athletes have dedicated themselves to looking towards the future, growing stronger as individuals and teammates athletically, academically and personally.
With fortitude, we are continuing to prepare our 700 Crusaders to compete at the highest level. Just as they are committed to training and learning, to capitalizing on the opportunities in front of them, we are committed to our vision – delivering a transformative student-athlete experience driven by competitive success.
Year after year, regardless of the circumstances, one thing remains constant — the strength of Crusaders when we go ALL IN for one another. Every dollar you give today will be dedicated to continuing our tradition of developing champions. And today, thanks to the Hope + Access campaign, all new and increased gifts are being matched 100% for financial aid.
Together, we are strong. Together, we shape our future. Together, let’s go ALL IN for Crusader student-athletes.
Go Cross Go!

Happy New Year and happy spring semester! With every winter storm we remember that lacrosse season is here!
The student-athletes are back on campus and we are doing everything we can to create the most normal season possible for them. It seems like every “normal” has an asterisk but the ability to be together and compete is what is keeping everyone going right now. Our return protocol was patient but as of last Saturday, we are practicing at full speed together as a team. I am incredibly proud of the sacrifices the players make every day to keep themselves and each other safe. I’m having a hard time imagining my own college experience with the kind of regulations we have today and I have an incredible appreciation for the commitment the players have to Holy Cross and the women’s lacrosse program.
We are scheduled to open our Patriot League schedule on March 6 at Lafayette. It will be a short season and different than we’ve ever seen it playing some teams twice and other rivals not at all. If there was ever a year to see Colgate twice though, it’s got to be 2021! Here is a link to our Patriot League schedule for this season. We do not anticipate having fans at games, but many will be streamed online so please tune in when you can!
We welcome nine newcomers in the Class of 2024 to campus this year from all over the country including New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Jersey and Washington (state!). While we have new faces, we return a majority of our starters including preseason All Patriot League players Jolie Creo ‘22 and Grace Flink ‘22. Jolie led the team in scoring her freshman and sophomore year, was ranked fourth in goals and sixth in points while also ranking 16th nationally in goals scored last season. Grace led our defense in goal where she ranked first in the Patriot League and third in the nation in save percentage. Jennifer Porretto returns on the staff this year and we also hired assistant coach Alyssa Guido and brought on volunteer coach Abbey Capobianco-Simone.
Our nine seniors have made a lasting impact on the program in their time at Holy Cross and are on a mission in their senior campaign! They lead every day with intensity, passion and heart. Our theme this year is “Empty Your Bucket” and every day they teach us what that means. I’m so grateful that they have the opportunity to compete this spring and am looking forward to honoring the Class of 2021 later in the season.
Off the field, we are focused on academics, navigating new ways to impact the community and doing our best to support the student-athletes however we can. When the players returned in January, we hosted an Alumni Career Networking night (on Zoom!) which already initiated connections, interviews and internship applications. Kat Sutton ’12 organized a group of alumni from the classes of 2004-2017, representing a range of industries. The players enjoyed it almost as much as the alumni did and, as always, our HCWLAX alumni brought the stories showing how lasting and meaningful their HC lacrosse memories are and more importantly, that the friendships created here on The Hill are forever.
Bringing everyone together virtually for a good sweat to reminisce over your favorite early morning sprint workout is another positive that came out of the pandemic so for anyone who is riding on a Peloton, the women’s lacrosse alumni are using the hashtag #HCWLAX! They typically ride on Wednesday evenings together. You can reach out to Sara Hennessey ’14 or Corinne Caracausa ’14 for more details to join in!
As always, I want to thank you for your support of the student-athletes and the women’s lacrosse program. As we mentioned in the fall, we have a goal of 40% participation from our women's lacrosse alumni. To date, 9.4% of our alumni have made a gift. To reach our goal, we need 88 more women's lacrosse alumni to make a gift. We hope you'll help us reach our goal! We feel the support from afar and are grateful to have such great people behind us. We look forward to making you proud both on and off the field this spring!
Go Cross!

1400 days ago by Sarah PhippsWe are in awe of and so very grateful for our supporters who continue to go All In for our student-athletes. Your generosity allows us to prepare our Crusaders for a stronger tomorrow as they strive to succeed and lead in athletics, in the classroom and in their communities.
Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your support! Holy Cross would not be what it is today without the participation and dedication of Crusader Nation.
Holy Cross student-athletes are dedicated and resilient. When our world — and in turn, our campus life — changed this year, we adapted. Through challenge after challenge, our commitment to our education and our athletics never faltered. And today, we remain focused and hopeful for the future.
This is why we are asking the Holy Cross community to come together right now in support of our student-athletes.
Whether you make a gift to the Fund for Athletics Excellence or to one of our 27 varsity teams, your generosity helps position us for an even stronger return to competition.
In the face of unprecedented challenges, we know that one thing remains constant — the strength of Crusaders when we go all in to support one another. On this Giving Tuesday, your gift is for our future. With your support, our next great moment awaits.
1506 days ago by Christene Kauffman RiendeauI hope you're having a great fall and can enjoy some of unseasonably warm weather! With all of the unknown this year and fall, I'm excited to send this update to you about the team and how we are adapting and looking ahead to the spring.
As you may know, Holy Cross's decision to go virtual academically created some challenges for us as an athletic department. We currently have 32 players living in the Worcester area with access to campus and everyone else is working hard remotely. We are all staying busy with a combination of virtual meetings, in-person practice, lifts, and workouts. We have found new ways to bring the team together on and off the field and are energized about whatever the spring will bring!
From day one this fall, we talked about how incredibly grateful we are for the opportunity to be together however we can and how critical it is to support each other. Staying motivated is a challenge that we face head-on and we always find ways to fuel our need for competition — of course, our Purple/White team rivalry is as strong as it ever is! For our players in Worcester and elsewhere, we are all focusing on fundamentals, skills, and building a strong foundation athletically. We meet regularly in virtual settings and touch on a wide range of topics that are all focused on bringing us together as a team both on and off the field.
I am encouraged about our outlook for a spring season right now for a variety of reasons, and look forward to whatever challenges we face! This is a competitive, passionate, and hard-working group of players who are eager to do big things on the lacrosse field this year! Every day, our goal is to get a little bit better and work hard for each other as we find ways to improve.
There is a new and exciting opportunity for you to support our team this year. For the first time, you can make a gift directly to the women's lacrosse program. We can't wait to see the direct impact you have on our program!
To our former student-athletes: we need your help. This year, we have set a goal of having 35% alumni participation in giving to the women's lacrosse program. To reach this goal, we need 100 out of our 285 alumni base to make a gift! However, let's do what Crusaders do and overachieve and exceed this 100 donor goal. To do this, we need all of you! Get your class together, connect with friends, and make a difference for the women's lacrosse team this year. Your gifts are so important to the student-athletes' experience and our success.
Every challenge that confronts this team is met with a fierce determination to overcome it. Thank you for your support of the team and for making their experience as women's lacrosse student-athletes as great as it can be.
