Today, I’m asking you, and all Crusaders, to go ALL IN.
All year, our student-athletes have dedicated themselves to looking towards the future, growing stronger as individuals and teammates athletically, academically and personally.
With fortitude, we are continuing to prepare our 700 Crusaders to compete at the highest level. Just as they are committed to training and learning, to capitalizing on the opportunities in front of them, we are committed to our vision – delivering a transformative student-athlete experience driven by competitive success.
Year after year, regardless of the circumstances, one thing remains constant — the strength of Crusaders when we go ALL IN for one another. Every dollar you give today will be dedicated to continuing our tradition of developing champions. And today, thanks to the Hope + Access campaign, all new and increased gifts are being matched 100% for financial aid.
Together, we are strong. Together, we shape our future. Together, let’s go ALL IN for Crusader student-athletes.

The past year has presented us with some of the biggest challenges that we have faced as a program, as well as some of the most amazing triumphs and joys. Through it all, we were so grateful for the support from our families, friends and alumnae. As outlined in my April email, there is so much to be proud of from this past season and so much to be excited about for the future of Holy Cross Volleyball.
Our players and staff are ALL IN and ready to keep working to take this program to new heights. Today, I am asking for you to join us on Friday, May 14 for the Athletics Giving Day and continue to be ALL IN by donating to Holy Cross Volleyball!
We also have a chance for one last WIN this year! An additional $5,000 will be awarded to the teams that have the five highest percentages of alumni giving on Friday as well as the top five programs for total donors (parents, friends, alumni -- anyone is included!). Every donation helps us compete for this bonus. Thank you in advance for your continued support of Holy Cross Volleyball!

What a busy and amazing couple of months it has been for Holy Cross Volleyball! As many of you know, our season ended about two weeks ago with a heartbreaking and hard fought 5-set loss to Army in the Patriot League Semi-Finals. We knew this was going to be a historic season no matter what as the first NCAA Spring Volleyball Season, but we made it historic because of many other accomplishments. The most notable piece of history was that this was the first-ever Patriot League Tournament berth for Holy Cross Volleyball (the conference created a limited four-team field in 1996). From the cutouts in the stands to the emails, texts, and social media posts, we cannot thank all of you enough for your incredible support during this very challenging and rewarding season!
This team was incredibly gritty, passionate and had an undeniable will to win. A list of additional team and individual accomplishments from the season is below.
Team Accomplishments:
• | Earned the 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament (highest ever) |
• | Best conference winning percentage since 2000 |
• | First season sweep of Lehigh since 2006 |
• | First win over Army since 2014 |
Individual Awards:
• | Coach Kathleen Colpoys — Patriot League Coach of the Year (first ever) and an AVCA Thirty Under 30 Award Recipient |
• | Clare Honan-First Team All-Patriot League (first for HCVB since 2016) and Patriot League All-Academic Team |
• | Katie Kerins-Patriot League All-Tournament Team |
• | Sophie VanSeveren-All-Time Career Digs leader at Holy Cross (1,508 digs) |
• | Katie Kerins-First Crusader ever to surpass both 800 kills and 200 blocks |
• | Clare Honan-Second Crusader to surpass both 700 kills and 200 blocks (now three with Kerins) |
Weekly Awards:
• | Clare Honan-Patriot League Player of the Week (3/29) |
• | Halle Carter-Patriot League Weekly Honorable Mention (3/15) |
• | Johnna Shamley-Crusader of the Week and Patriot League Weekly Honorable Mention (3/1) |
Possibly our greatest accomplishment of all will never show up in a record book or a press release and that is that once we began training we did not have a single COVID case or close contact quarantine in our program. This allowed us to be the only Patriot League volleyball team to play the full 10 game regular season. The level of sacrifice and commitment to each other and this program shown by all this season was truly remarkable. I am so proud of this group of women and excited for the future of Holy Cross Volleyball!
Save the Date: Holy Cross will be holding an Athletics Day of Giving on Friday, May 14th. We appreciate your generosity at any time of the year, but ask that you please consider donating to HCVB on this day if possible to help us with any athletics specific giving challenges or incentives.
Stay Healthy and Go Crusaders!

February 19, 2021
I hope that you and your family are safe, healthy and warm. The beginning of 2021 has been very exciting for Holy Cross Volleyball! The team reported to campus on January 19th on what we are sure was the coldest preseason report day in HCVB history. Since then, we have been busy working our way through a reconditioning/resocialization progression, designed by our Sports Medicine staff, to get everyone ready for game day as safely as possible after the long time away. The players and our support staff have been amazing while we all adjust to life in college athletics during a pandemic and having all Holy Cross teams be in season at the same time.
Through all of the changes, the best moment for me by far was on Saturday, February 2nd, when we had our first team practice in 332 days!
Our Spring 2021 Patriot League Schedule was recently released. We are so excited to kick off the season exactly ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!! Due to COVID-19 restrictions, fans will unfortunately not be permitted at any Patriot League indoor contests this spring. We hope you will still follow along at home when our games are live-streamed on ESPN+. We anticipate a full broadcast schedule to be released sometime next week.
We would also love to “see” you in Blaney Gymnasium as a member of our “Cutout Cru.” Please consider purchasing a cutout (goholycross.com/cutouts) so we can still see our supporters in the stands at home games this season.
It is clear this season is going to be unlike any other but we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to play and hungry to get wins! Do not forget to follow all of our social media accounts — @hcrossvb on Instagram and Twitter and Holy Cross Volleyball on Facebook — for the latest from HCVB throughout the spring.
Go Crusaders!

1308 days ago by Sarah PhippsWe are in awe of and so very grateful for our supporters who continue to go All In for our student-athletes. Your generosity allows us to prepare our Crusaders for a stronger tomorrow as they strive to succeed and lead in athletics, in the classroom and in their communities.
Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your support! Holy Cross would not be what it is today without the participation and dedication of Crusader Nation.
Holy Cross student-athletes are dedicated and resilient. When our world — and in turn, our campus life — changed this year, we adapted. Through challenge after challenge, our commitment to our education and our athletics never faltered. And today, we remain focused and hopeful for the future.
This is why we are asking the Holy Cross community to come together right now in support of our student-athletes.
Whether you make a gift to the Fund for Athletics Excellence or to one of our 27 varsity teams, your generosity helps position us for an even stronger return to competition.
In the face of unprecedented challenges, we know that one thing remains constant — the strength of Crusaders when we go all in to support one another. On this Giving Tuesday, your gift is for our future. With your support, our next great moment awaits.
1413 days ago by Christene Kauffman RiendeauThis is certainly not a typical Holy Cross Volleyball October update! I am so grateful for all of your support of the program during these difficult past few months. At a time of year when we are normally in the heart of our Patriot League schedule, we instead find ourselves all over the country combatting the many challenges of this global pandemic.
For those of you that are not aware, the College made the difficult decision to go fully remote for the fall semester. For our team, this means that everyone is taking classes online and 10 players are at home this semester and seven are living in Worcester.
While it has been very challenging being apart, the resiliency and work-ethic of these student-athletes has been incredible. They have stepped up and adapted to a brand new format of online college courses, completed workouts with whatever facilities and equipment they have had access to, and found unique ways to stay connected to teammates all over the country.
“Training” this semester has definitely looked different but we are still making progress as a program. The seven players in Worcester were approved to have access to campus and are allowed to practice twice per week and lift twice per week. While we certainly miss the rest of the team it has been so awesome to be back in Blaney Gymnasium playing volleyball this past month.
Each week we also have a team Zoom meeting. This is a chance for the whole team to get together for an hour and to bring many of the support resources that are typically available to the players while on campus to them now in a virtual setting. Some examples of these guest speakers and topics include Academic Services and Learning Resources, Holy Cross Sport Psychologist Trevor Cote, the Office of Multicultural Education, a session on healthy lifestyles and athlete nutrition, and a session surrounding the Clifton Strengths Assessment.
Lastly, we have weekly virtual volleyball assignments. These assignments are designed to help increase our volleyball IQ and in some cases work with teammates to complete a task.
I am sure many of you are wondering what comes next for HCVB. At this time the next few months are still unknown. As a group, we are remaining hopeful about the possibility of having a season in the spring and are determined to continue to work hard so that we are ready for whenever the next time we get to put on those Crusader jerseys again is!
In the meantime, be sure to follow us on social media! We are currently in the middle of a “Player Hometown Takeover” series on Instagram (@hcrossvb) that you do not want to miss. We are also hosting a Virtual Alumnae Event on 11/9 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. EDT. Alumnae make sure to register here for a chance to connect with one another and the current student-athletes.
